BIOGRAPHY OF LAAYLA JACOBS
Laayla Jacobs has loved creating art since she was very young. She remembers making her own colouring books at the age of six for her younger sister to colour in. Despite her father working overseas for most of her childhood and teenage years, she grew up in a very happy, female dominated Islamic home.
In 2016, Jacobs graduated from UCT, Michaelis school of Fine Art, the place where ‘Fulla’ (the main topic of all of her work) was born. In 2017, she was featured in the House and Leisure magazine as one of South Africa’s top 10 artists in the August 2017 Issue “The Future is Female”.
She has taken part in a number of group exhibitions: such as representing the UCT Alumni artists at the Nirox Winter Sculpture Fair 2017, working with Curator Dr Siona O’Connel & Jade Nair, “A flood in my hands” at the Fried Contemporary Gallery, Johannesburg with curator Aysha Waja. “Well Worn” at the Cavalli gallery, Cavalli Estate, Stellenbosch with Curator: Amy Lyn Eveleigh. She is currently working as a senior web designer at a web developing company called HYVE MOBILE.
