BIOGRAPHY OF DIMAKATSO MATHOPA
Dimakatso Augustine Mathopa was born in1995 in Mpumalanga. She is a visual artist living and practising in Gauteng after completed a B. Tech degree at the University of Johannesburg in 2018. Dimakatso practiced art since she was in high school by seeking inspiration from cartoon characters commonly seen on national television and from her brothers primary school art creations. As a student Dimakatso majored in printmaking with a special focus on photographic processes such as Cyanotype, Silkscreen and Van Dyke Brown printing. Her recent body of work consists of an ongoing portraits of individual beings located in a colonial space (Lindfield Museum, Auckland Park). She focuses on how the colonial space narrates the black subject in a post-colonial context.
