BIOGRAPHY OF COLLEN MASWANGANYI
Collen Maswanganyi was born in 1977 from an artistic family in Noblehoek village near Giyani, Limpopo province. Maswanganyi is a third-generation artist in his family. His father, Johannes Maswanganyi, is a well-known artist who has exhibited internationally, and his works form parts of prominent private and public collections worldwide. His father followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Piet Mafemani Maswanganyi, who was great carver.
After Maswanganyi finished school he furthered his education by studying Fine Art at Technikon Witwatersrand and obtained a National Diploma. Once he completed his studies he started practising art full time until now. This artist participated in several prominent group and solo exhibitions, locally and internationally, such as the Beijing Biennale in 2015. His artwork is represented in many corporate, museum collections, universities, private and many other institutional collections.
Collen is an award-winning artist; most notable awards are the Absa Merit award and Kanna Award and he has had the privilege of enjoying a great deal of media coverage in his career. Furthermore, he has participated in several art workshops internationally.
