BIOGRAPHY OF LESEGO MOTSIRI
Lesego Motsiri currently lives in Bloemfontein in the Free State province, where he is completing his 3rd year B.A. Fine Arts degree at the University of the Free State. Motsiri is working as a student art curator assistant at the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery UFS campus.
Born in Klerksdorp in the North-West province, Motsiri finished high school at Potchefstroom Boys’ High School. He is now working hard to become a full-time visual artist. In 2016 he was nominated to take part in the District Six 50th Commemoration Print Exchange, hosted by District Six Art Museum. In the same year he made it to the semi-final round of selection for the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition.
From 2015 to 2017 he participated in the annual student group exhibitions at the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery, (UFS). Hosted by Oddz Creatives, Motsiri had a solo exhibition of 21 artworks at the Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein Art Gallery, titled The Black Season 17 in 2017, in collaboration with the choreographer Motlatsi Khotle, for a theatre production of Black Season that was performed at the Ernest Oppenheimer Theatre in 2017.
Motsiri has been the proud chairperson of an art- based association at the University of the Free State, United Free State of Mind, since its inception in 2015. In 2016 and 2017 Motsiri was a volunteer worker at the Free State art Festival. “I am a committed and goal- oriented individual who believes that one has to work hard in order to achieve; one has to always be focused on the objective and be willing to go the extra mile and help others. I am determined to achieve the best results in all I do.
