BIOGRAPHY OF LELANI NICOLAISEN
Lelani Nicolaisen was born in 1988 and currently lives in Pretoria, South Africa. In 2006, she won a fashion design competition with Bernina and Bloemfontein Fashion Academy (BFA). Her prize was a bursary to study fashion design at the BFA the following year. After completing the fashion design course, she obtained a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria in 2011. The next year, Nicolaisen represented the University of Pretoria by exhibiting some of her works as part of the first World Event Young Artists programme in Nottingham, England. Between 2015 and 2016, Nicolaisen was the recipient of a NRF grant holder-linked bursary. Nicolaisen completed her MA in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria in 2017 and was appointed the acting curator for the sculptural collection at the Edoardo Villa Museum (University of Pretoria) since 2019, where she is also a guest lecturer in the Fine Arts Department.
