Description

BIOGRAPHY OF VUYISILE ADOONS

Vuyisile Adoons was born and bred in a small town called Rouxville, Southern Free State. He is an emerging, talented, South African artist. He started drawing at the age of 10. After completing Grade 12 he studied Art and Design at Central Johannesburg College, where he obtained a diploma. The genre of portraiture was a main focus of his studies.

After finishing his studies, he worked as a commission artist for several years but in 2015 he decided to try other art forms such as landscapes, seascape etc. and this was when he saw the demand for his work from people who acknowledged and admired it.

Working as a full-time artist, Vuyisile can use different types of media, but he uses oil paints to create artworks. His work is inspired by the people and the environment in which he lives.

In 2017 he exhibited his work in the NaDonal Art Festival and MACUFE in Bloemfontein.  In August 2018 he got an invitation to showcase his work in New York, USA, where he had a very successful exhibition. He also takes part in a number of festivals and exhibitions to display his artworks nationwide. He has been featured in various newspapers such as Daily Sun, Sunday World etc.

He has recently worked on commission portraits of prominent public figures in SA including the former Deputy Minister of Art and Culture, Free State Premier, and the Free State MEC for Social Development.

As an emerging young artist, Adoons is continuously mentored by Mr Richard Bollers, who is an established artist. He has exhibited and sold his artworks all over South Africa and overseas, using Facebook and other social media platforms as a marketing tool for his work. In September 2019 his showcased his artworks at Tulbagh Arts Festival in Tulbagh, Western Cape, and sold a few paintings.

His biggest achievement so far is being featured on the October issue of the South African Artist magazine’s cover page, with his full story inside. Adoons ’s work can be seen on his Facebook page. He has again been featured in the South African Artist for July, issue 53, where he took part in the Winsor & Newton Challenge with three other well-known artists. His interpretation of the work can be seen in the magazine.
