BIOGRAPHY OF CHEPAPE MAKGATO
Chepape Makgato was born in Kensington, Johannesburg, in 1988 and raised in Makotopong village, outside Polokwane in Limpopo. He now works full-time as an artist at his studio in Johannesburg. Makgato obtained a 3-year Professional Certificate in Fine Arts, majoring in Printmaking, from Artist Proof Studio. He has a Diploma in Media Practice, majoring in Journalism at Boston Media House, Sandton Campus. Currently he is enrolled at the University of the Witwatersrand as an MA in Fine Arts candidate. He has participated in numerous exhibitions locally and internationally (South Africa: Johannesburg, Polokwane and Cape Town; Europe: London; and USA: Washington DC). He collaborated with William Kentridge on a project in January 2015 and continues to work on some of Kentridge’s smaller projects at the David Krut Art Resources and with Sharon Sampson Studio (which led to print-making collaborations with various artists). Chepape was on Thobela FM as an Arts Correspondent from 2016-2018 and is also a Freelance Arts Writer.
