INVITATION TO ARTISTS TO APPLY TO PARTICIPATE IN ART CREATING PROGRAMME

Are you a visual artist who needs mentorship? Do you want to participate in an amazing nationwide art creating programme?

Apply to participate in the art creating programme which will take place between February 2025 and May 2025.

ART CREATING PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

Individual Visual Artists to Create Artworks for the National Museum. Under this programme, 30 Work-Based Experience or Internship positions will be provided for visual artists who will be appointed to create high-quality artworks for the National Museum while receiving mentorship to improve their art-making skills.

The ultimate goal is for artists to gain confidence and enhance their networks in the visual arts sector. Beneficiaries will be identified through a public call. Applications will be subjected to pre-screening, evaluation, and adjudication processes. No AI (Artificial Intelligence) produced work will be considered. Artists will receive guidance from mentors to improve the caliber of artworks created during this program, with the possibility of having their work considered for inclusion in the Artbank of South Africa Contemporary Visual Art Collection

VALUE FOR ART CREATING PROGRAMME:

Value = a stipend of R5,700 per month, duration: four months.

VISUAL ARTISTS ELIGIBILITY

a.      Funding is available only to South African Citizens

b.      Preference will be given to artists that have not benefited from previous PESP Art Creating programmes

QUALIFICATION GUIDE:

  • Must have a qualification in visual arts at NQF level 5.
  • Must be a practicing artist with at least 2 years’ post-education experience as a productive studio artist.
  • Must provide 3 images of work completed so we can assess suitability to be on the programme.

A shortlisting process will be done on candidates who meet the criteria. Should there be more applicants who qualify for shortlisting, the ArtbankSA will apply provincial and demographic (race and gender) criteria. Interviews may be held with mentors to establish suitability of the artists for the programme.

VISUAL ARTISTS APPLICATIONS CRITERIA

a. A completed application form must be submitted

b. Submit a short CV

c. Certified ID copy (certification not older than three months)

d. Certified copy of visual art qualification (certification not older than three months)

A Work-Based Experience/internship contract must be signed by the artist. Non adherence to the above criteria will result in the application being disqualified.

Closing Date: The deadline for applications is Friday, 31 January 2025.
