Press Release – Homing in on Freedom: Art Bank of South Africa Youth Exhibition 2019

The artworks on exhibition were selected from the Art Bank of South Africa’s Contemporary Visual Art Collection purchased in the 2018/2019 year and were chosen to highlight the themes and  concerns explored by the youth (18-35yr) artists represented in the collection. This multi-disciplined exhibition explore themes of home, identity and expression and is curated under the theme “Homing in on Freedom”.

“Homing in on Freedom” will be on show from the 27th June 2019 as part of the Constitution Hill Basha Uhuru Freedom Fest and will run until 31 July 2019. It will be opened at 18:00 on Thursday, 27 June 2019 at the Number Four Museum, Constitution Hill, 11 Kotze Road, Johannesburg.

The Art Bank of South Africa is a national programme of the Department of Arts and Culture as part of the Mzansi Golden Economy (MGE) strategy implementation and is hosted by the National Museum Bloemfontein, an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture. The vision of the Art Bank is to promote, foster and stimulate a vibrant market for the collection of South African contemporary visual art.

The Art Bank of South Africa is tasked with purchasing artworks from South African artists, particularly that of emerging artists in order to lease and sell the artworks to South African government departments, private companies and private individuals.

The featured artists are Khulekani Cele, Sifiso Samuel Gumede, Thalente Khomo, Banele Khoza, Azael Langa, Qhama Maswana, Lungisa Matubatuba, Wonder Buhle Mbambo, Manyatsa Monyamane, Thato Motana, Mashudu Nevhutalu, Zwelinjani Radebe, Lebo Thoka and Sthembiso Zwane.

Art Bank of South Africa Mission:
